From the very beginning humans have been curious about the world around them. From 25,000 year old cave paintings depicting lunar cycles to certain repeating sets of numbers encoded within virtually every significant ancient structure, our ancestors clearly sought to not only gain knowledge about the world around them but also to apply this knowledge in their works. One of the most common way they did this was through the use of sacred geometry.

Sacred Geometry can be defined as the study of certain geometric shapes and patterns that occur in nature. One common aspect of sacred geometry you may have heard of is The Golden Ratio. The evidence of this ratio is found all throughout nature from the spiraling design of a seashell to the double helix pattern of the DNA molecule.

Sacred Geometry : Basic Shapes and Concepts

The fundamental shape to sacred geometry is circle. It is with this shape, coupled with the right knowledge, that you can draw all the symbols within sacred geometry.

The first of these shapes is formed by drawing two circles, who's centers are both tangent to each other. The overlapping area is what is known as the Vesica Piscis.

This rather simple yet beautiful shape is the basis for every symbol and concept within sacred geometry.
